Titanium boride (TiB2) is a stable compound of boron and titanium. It is a C32 type structure and is bonded in the form of its valence bond. It is a hexagonal metalloid compound. The structural parameters of its complete crystal are: a is 0.3028nm, C is 0.3228nm. The boron atomic surface and the microscopic titanium surface in the crystal structure alternately form a two-dimensional network structure, in which B and the other three B are covalently bonded, and an extra electron forms a large π bond. The layered structure of boron atoms similar to graphite and the outer particles of Ti determine that TiB2 has good conductivity and metallic luster, and the Ti-B bond between the boron atom surface and titanium atom surface determines the high hardness of this material And brittleness.
Application area
1 Conductive ceramic material. It is one of the primary raw materials of vacuum coating conductive evaporation boat.
2 Ceramic cutting tools and molds. It can manufacture finishing tools; wire drawing dies, extrusion dies, sandblasting nozzles, sealing elements, etc.
3 Composite ceramic material. It can be used as an essential component of multi-component composite materials. It can be combined with TiC, TiN, SiC, and other materials to make various high-temperature resistant components and functional components, such as high-temperature crucibles and engine components. It is also one of the materials used to make armor protective materials.
4 Aluminum cathode coating material. Because TiB2 has good wettability with aluminum liquid metal, using TiB2 as the cathode coating material for aluminum electrolytic cells can reduce the power consumption of aluminum electrolytic cells and prolong the life of electrolytic cells.
