Tin disulfide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula SnS2. It is a yellow hexagonal flake containing the CdI2 crystal shape. It is hardly soluble in water, however, it is water-soluble in aqua regia. It is also soluble in hot alkaline solution. It's also soluble in sodium sulfide Solution, which is commonly used as golden paint.

Tin disulfide dissolves in aqua regia as well as hot alkali solution. It may undergo coordination reaction when combined with concentrated hydrochloric acid. However, it's insoluble in dilute hydrochloric acids and is insoluble in water and Nitric acid. It may also react with ammonium sulfur to dissolve.

Electrochemical behavior of carbon nanotubes with multi-walled walls confined tin disulfide as negative electrodes of lithium ion battery

The direct current arc plasma technique was used to prepare multi-walled carbon nanotubes-confined metal tin Nanostructures (Sn@MWCNT) as the precursor in methane atmosphere. Then, SnS_2@MWCNT were made by an sulfurization process. A novel composite made up of SnS2 combined with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) was prepared by the simple solvothermal method. It is found to have excellent electrochemical characteristics after being added to the negatively electrode material of the lithium Ion batteries. In a high density of current of 1 A/gand after 100 cycle, it maintains a reversible specific capacity of about 510 milliamps per gram. To illustrate, we applied the same technique to make a single SnS2 material and then conduct studies on electrochemistry on the material. The results reveal that while the initial ability of SnS2 material is relatively high, its cycle performance is low and goes through a rapid decline after less than 20 cycles. The higher quality of this material for lithium-ion batteries thought to be the result of the synergy that occurs between the two components in SnS2 in addition to SWCNTs.
